The courier industry could be boosted by the Governments new pledge which includes super-fast internet services.

It has been claimed that the courier industry needs to work hard to keep many online businesses trading as the Government promises super-fast broadband services.

The Government has pledges that two-thirds of the UK will get super-fast broadband services by the year 2015, but unless courier businesses step up to this challenge by offering super-fast delivery services, it could be unbeneficial.

According to a leading observer of the postal and parcel delivery industry in the UK, many online businesses will be left high and dry by the Governments promise.

Shops get a warning over misleading prices

Shop owners and executives have received a stern warning from the UK’s consumer and competition authority over misleading customers with confusing offers.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is getting tough with retailers and shops who display sales promotions such as ‘buy one, get one free’ and ‘offer ends today’ which are actually untrue.

A report published by the OFT highlights how pricing techniques are tricking customers and tempting them to spend more money than they would have at a time when customers need support.

A new framework setting out the criteria used against traders engaged in pricing practices has been published to reduce the amount of harm drip pricing is causing on the public.

It has been claimed that companies that include all compulsory charges in the headline price and make details of all optional charges available early in the buying process are less likely to be subject to OFT enforcement action.

OFT’s chief executive John Fingleton said.

“We urge all firms to review their pricing practices and to get their houses in order where necessary.”

But the British Retail Consortium (BRC’s) director of business and regulation, Tom Ironside said:

Tenth auction of carbon credits brings Rhode Island $735,475, Mass. $7.3M

NEW YORK – An auction of carbon emissions credits will deliver $735,475 to Rhode Island primarily for energy efficiency programs managed by National Grid.

The money comes from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative’s tenth auction held Wednesday. The electronic auction raised $48.2 million through the sale of credits in the initiative’s 10-state jurisdiction that includes all of New England as well as Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and New York.

The price to emit one ton of carbon dioxide was $1.86, the same as the previous auction, held in September.

But overall proceeds fell by $18.2 million and Rhode Island saw a $225,860 drop in its share. Massa
