Caprio makes national headlines over ‘shove it’ comment

PROVIDENCE – Frank T. Caprio, Democratic candidate for governor, has made national news after telling WPRO-AM that President Barack Obama can “take his endorsement and really shove it.”

“I never asked President Obama for his endorsement and what’s going on here is really Washington insider politics at its worst,” Caprio said, according to abcnews.com “He can take his endorsement and really shove it as far as I am concerned.”

The non-endorsement is seen as a victory for independent candidate Lincoln Chafee, who supported Obama in 2008.

Dutch police disable huge botnet

Dutch authorities have successfully disabled a huge malware-distributing botnet and brought about the arrest of its suspected mastermind in Armenia.

Known as Bredolab, the network constituted hundreds of thousands of compromised computers at any one time. Cybercriminals could then rent the botnet and distribute malware that captured sensitive user data, such as online banking log-ins and passwords.

Bredolab was controlled via servers rented from hosting provider Leaseweb in the Netherlands, which says it was first alerted by police in August 2010.

Small businesses have mixed views on Spending Review

Small businesses generally reacted positively to the Comprehensive Spending Review but one business group claims it is missing a link.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) welcomed a number of measures introduced by the coalition Government yesterday, however there is a missing link that is unlikely to push small business success.

The FSB considers the 50% increase in the number of adult apprenticeships to 75,000 new apprentices a year a good move, Along with plans to move towards a low carbon economy and the commitment to improve the infrastructure of the country.

But comments that increasing the tax base, creating more businesses and incentivising small firms to grow and innovate were all missing from the Governments deficit programme.

Research carried out by the FSB highlights the importance of a Programme for Growth.

FCC to discuss TV stations sharing channels to clear space for web

WASHINGTON – Television broadcasters may share their digital channels to make room for mobile high-speed Internet service under new rules, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski said.

The voluntary sharing and an easier process for experimental use of airwaves are among strategies for making more space available for Web use that the agency plans to discuss at its meeting next month, Genachowski said Thursday.

Demand for airwaves, or spectrum, is outstripping supply as consumers use data-hungry smartphones and tablet devices such as Apple Inc.’s iPad, Genachowski said at an agency event in Washington. T

Small businesses fear double-dip recession

Small businesses are questioning whether the recession is really over, research by a business group shows.

According to the Chartered Management Institute (CMI’s) Economic Outlook report, small businesses fear the UK faces a depressing and uncertain future, ahead of forthcoming spending review.

Morale and general business optimism has decreased significantly among companies. 58% of small firms have identified that morale is much worse than it was six months ago and levels of optimism look to drop by 13% within the next six months.

Small businesses hit hard by cuts

Small businesses in Wales are expected to be hit hard from Governments spending cuts, a new report suggests.

The UK government’s comprehensive spending review on 20th of October will announce cuts aimed at tackling the country’s deficit which is predicted to hit the job sector among small businesses in Wales.

According to accountants PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) many Welsh small businesses are likely to cease trading ahead of the expected public sector spending cuts.

A total of 52,000 jobs will be lost in Wales alone by 2015, which equates to 4.3% of the whole job Market in Wales.
