WESTERLY – A traveling exhibit, “The Many Faces of George Washington,” will be on display at the Colony House in Newport through July 9.
The exhibit comprises 7-foot-tall panels that present views of Washington as a general, statesman, farmer and visionary entrepreneur, using color graphics of paintings, photographs and iconic objects from the Mount Vernon collection.
It is an invitation-only exhibit, except for July 4 when it is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In celebration of the holiday, a special reading of the Declaration of Independence will take place on the steps of the Colony House – the same place it was originally read in July 1776.

Banks were encouraged to improve their data protection practices by two regulatory bodies today.
Speaking at an event held by the British Bankers’ Association, the UK’s deputy information commissioner David Smith called on banks to take their obligation to give customers’ access to the data they hold on them seriously.
“Getting it right on data protection doesn’t just mean keeping data secure,” he said. “The law also gives individuals an important right to remain in control of their information.
“I want to remind banks of the need to take this obligation seriously, providing full responses in a timely manner,” Smith said. <

NEW YORK – Mortgage applications in the U.S. fell last week even as borrowing costs dropped.
The Mortgage Bankers Association’s index decreased 2.7 percent in the period ended June 24 from the prior week, the Washington-based group reported Wednesday. The group’s purchase gauge fell 3 percent to the lowest level since late February, while the refinancing measure declined 2.6 percent.

Hackers have published a mass of data, including passwords, that appears to have been stolen from the governments of Brazil, Zimbabwe, Australia and the Caribbean island Anguilla.
The release of the data was announced through a online activism group Anonymous’s Twitter feed.
One of the files released appears to contain usernames and encrypted passwords for different areas of the Zimbabwean government’s website. These login details include Gmail accounts, as well as gov.zw email accounts. Anonymous also released a file which appears to contain login details to Brazilian government websites.

The Italian website of pharmaceutical giant Bayer has been brought down by hackers affiliated with online activist group Anonymous.
A twitter account associated with hacking group Anonymous said that its Italian division had taken the website down. “Reports just in that #OpItaly brought down Italian sites of the Pharma group Bayer: http://www.bayer.it | Stupid battleship sunk! #AntiSec,” it said.
Günter Forneck, a Bayer representative, confirmed increased levels of traffic on the Italian website, saying that users would experience “some restriction at the moment”.
“We can confirm an increase in activity on the Italian website over the past few days,” Forneck said.
