KINGSPORT — Three counter lawsuits seeking nearly $5 million each in damages have been filed against Holston Medical Group on behalf of three pediatricians who were sued by HMG after leaving the practice to work under the Mountain States Health Alliance umbrella.
The countersuits were filed in Sullivan County Chancery Court on behalf of Drs. Nicole Miller, Amy Marlow and Micelle Estes.
The three pediatricians left HMG in February and opened Mountain States Medical Group Pediatrics on the campus of Indian Path Medical Center. I

Consumer spending probably climbed at the slowest pace in almost a year and manufacturing cooled as dimmer job prospects and elevated commodity costs weighed on the U.S. expansion, economists said reports this week will show.
Purchases rose 0.1 percent in May, the smallest gain since June 2010, according to the median estimate of 63 economists in a survey before a Commerce Department figures tomorrow. The disaster in Japan also held back American factories this month, a survey of purchasing managers may show.
The highest gasoline prices since 2008 and unemployment hovering around 9 percent caused households to pare spending, which may temper demand at factories already contending with higher input expenses and supply chain disruptions. Read more…

LINCOLN — Personal and business accessories maker A.T. Cross Co. joined two of the Russell Group’s stock market indexes on June 24.
The company joined the Russell Global Index and the Russell 2000 Index, which are used by investment managers and institutional investors for index funds and as benchmarks for both passive and active investment strategies. Currently, $3.9 trillion in assets are benchmarked to them, A.T. Cross said.
The Russell 2000 is a subset of the Russell 3000 and measures the performance of the U.S. small-cap segment.
