BP accuses drilling partner of lack of disclosure over Deepwater accident

Last week, BP filed a complaint with a US court alleging that hundreds of documents relating to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill are not being disclosed by the rig operator.

Since the legal “discovery” process started, Transocean has handed over at least 247,000 documents and 3.36m pages relating to its internal investigation on the causes of the accident. However, BP says it wants more key pieces of evidence.

Last week, BP filed a “motion to compel” Transocean to disclose more information with the Louisiana court handling all oil spill litigation.

Jobless claims in U.S. decreased last week to three-month low

WASHINGTON – Applications for unemployment benefits dropped last week to the lowest level since April, a sign the weakness in the labor market is abating.

Jobless claims fell by 24,000 to 398,000 in the week ended July 23, fewer than forecast, Labor Department figures showed today in Washington. The median estimate of economists in a Bloomberg News survey called for a drop to 415,000. There were no special factors associated with the decrease other than the usual volatility that occurs each year in July, a Labor Department spokesman said.

A reduction in firings is a necessary step toward the point when employers are more willing to add workers.

But with many residents of southeastern Florida struggling to put food on the table because of the economic downturn, she knew the food bank could and had to do more.

As Texas Gov. Rick Perry ponders a bid for the Republican presidential nomination, Texans weighing his economic legacy are debating the role played by a long boom in government jobsand the possible bust ahead.
Texas has enjoyed the most robust economy in the U.S. during Mr. Perry’s decade as governor, which is one reason his potential candidacy is attracting national attention. The Lone Star State gained more than a million jobs since the end of 2000, while the U.S. has lost almost 1.5 million.
